Tunes on Tuesday: We Hate the Same Way

Why this tune?

I wrote the first version of this week’s tune in January as part of my song-a-day challenge. I found inspiration in a column by Miss Manners we read in the Washington Post, where their response to a letter included the blessing “May you two have a long and happy life together focusing on your various grudges.” That sounded like a great premise for a love song, which emerged as “We Hate the Same Way.” I think it describes quite a healthy relationship, where the couple enjoy every moment together, even the annoying ones.

I took another look at the song this week, as I’m planning to include it on an album I’m recording in the fall. I thought the harmony needed a refresh. I also rearranged some of the sections and corrected some duplication in the lyric.

I’ll share more details about the album project as we finalize the plans.
