Why this tune?
I wrote and recorded “Sanitizer” early in the pandemic, starting the process with a hip drum sample from the superbly useful Drumgenius library (Tony Williams on “500 miles high”). The bass line and chords came next, followed by the simple melody.
More than two years later, the pandemic, and the need for constant sanitizing, are still with us, so I resurrected the tune and recorded a new keyboard solo using my Yamaha Reface CP keyboard.
The next step for this tune will be to try to perform it live. I shared the track with my bandmates in the Lucky So & Sos, and we’re working on it for our upcoming show on May 27 in Washington, DC. The groove fits the band’s style, and should provide a solid rhythmic base for rapper Ardamus to freestyle on.
