Available now! “Making Up For Lost Time”

At long last, my album of original songs “Making Up For Lost Time” is complete and ready for production, scheduled for release on November 7. The album features 11 compositions (9 with lyrics) and features 10 of the DC area’s top jazz performers.

I’m thrilled with how the music came out. I’m also thrilled with this super cover photo, shot by the brilliant DC photographer Darwyn M. Dave.

I hope you enjoy the finished product, coming soon to CD Baby (digital and CD) and your favorite digital music services.

New song: All I Ever Lost

I’m always on the lookout for inspiration for new songs, which usually comes in the form of a unique turn of phrase that turns into a lyric or a title. For this new song, a cabaret number called “All I Ever Lost,” inspiration came from Dani Stoller, a talented singer/ actress/playwright I met last year at a cabaret hosted by Barbara Papendorp, another talented singer/actress who I have the pleasure of performing with regularly around the DC area. Dani told us a story of a failed relationship, concluding that “all I ever lost was my TV.” Several months later, that sentiment evolved into this song, which Barbara and I premiered on Aug. 23 at Bistrot Lepic. Enjoy!

April 2017: Playing the Fool at Mr. Henry’s, plus first gig at Acadiana

Here’s my live music schedule for April 2017. Please come out on April 1 (seriously!) for what promises to be a fun and foolish show with Barbara Papendorp (and special guests) at Mr. Henry’s. We have a great band and fun selection of songs for the season, including some of my Spring selections.

I’ll be at Acadiana on Easter Sunday, April 16, with the fine vocalist Tony Gudell and a trio. This is my first show at this elegant Cajun restaurant in downtown DC, and we’ll be presenting an equally elegant program of American standards, including some lesser-known gems and a couple of my originals.

Barbara and I are back at the Blue Bar at the Henley Park Hotel on the 22nd, another chance to play their grand piano. After that, I’ll be back with Aaron Myers and the band to close out the month with a show at Mr. Henry’s on the 28th.

Hope to see you!

“Snowing In Vegas” now on Spotify!

The Aaron Myers holiday album “Snowing In Vegas” is now available on Spotify. The album features Aaron’s new holiday classic “Love All Year, three of my original compositions (“Hanukkah Light”, “Snow Day”, and “Stand Right”) plus the fun original title tune “It’s Snowing In Vegas”. Enjoy!

Dinner Jazz at Dahlak: May 1

The new Wednesday night dinner jazz series at Dahlak continues on Wednesday May 1, when I’ll be in the house on piano leading a vocal trio featuring singer Deirdre Jennings-Holton and Russell Snyder on bass. Looking forward to a fun evening of standards and original vocal and instrumental pieces.

Please come out and enjoy the music and tasty Eritrean food. The music starts at 7 pm, and there’s no cover or minimum.

Dahlak (also the home of the DC Jazz Jam) is located at 1771 U St. NW in DC’s Adams Morgan neighborhood.

Playing for my people

I’m back at the Black Fox this Friday Feb. 3, with the Black Fox Ensemble (Percy White on bass and Will Stephens on the drums). Aaron is out of town, so we will be backing vocalist CaShandra J (and perhaps some additional guest vocalists). Should be another enjoyable evening of standards and surprises.

On Saturday Feb. 11, I’ll be joining Jason Mendelson and the Open Doors to play MetroSongs at Nerd Nite, a celebration of smarts and music at DC9 (9th & U Sts NW in DC). Tickets are $10 for the show, which starts at 6:30 pm. As a former mechanical and software engineer, I feel that I’ll be playing for my people, and am looking forward to the nerdly vibe.

Playing for my people...

In addition to the above, Aaron Myers and the rest of the Black Fox Ensemble are still on track to play at the Soirée Saint-Valentin on Feb. 10 at La Maison Française in the French Embassy in NW DC.
