Tunes on Tuesday: On All Other Nights (Passover 2023)

Why this tune?

Passover starts this week on Wednesday night (April 5, 2023), this year mostly free from the shadow of the pandemic. I wrote “On All Other Nights” before the holiday in 2020, when those of us celebrating had to change our in-person plans. I was delighted that Julie Mack agreed to record the vocal for the song (remotely of course).

As the memories of the pandemic period fade, I expect much of the music that it inspired will seem less relevant. I can understand why we might want to put those days (and songs) behind us and avoid painful memories. For me, though, this reminder of where we were and how we felt then helps me appreciate this year’s in-person holiday more.

The song ends on a hopeful note that’s always relevant, looking ahead to celebrating in the next year, Leshana Haba’ah.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy Passover, Easter, Ramadan, Eid, and whatever else you’re celebrating!
