Tunes on Tuesday: Waiting

What’s new?

After two years of Tunes on Tuesday, I’m changing the format. Starting from this week, I’ll post a new original tune every two weeks. It might be a completed song or a work in progress, which I’ll share with notes on the songwriting process. I hope you enjoy the new format.

Why this tune?

I wrote this week’s tune for the February Album Writing Month (FAWM) project (@fawmers), which encourages registrants to write 14 songs in 28 days. It’s a very active online community with songwriters from all over writing in many different styles.

The FAWM team posted a prompt a week ago suggesting writing a one-note melody. That inspired this short song, “Waiting,” which starts with a one-note melody (with shifting harmonies) that adds more notes as the song goes along. I think it’s a promising start that could be expanded into a “real” song. On the other hand, maybe it’s worth keeping it as it is, a short and (bitter)sweet musical story.
