Why this tune?
Tunes On Tuesday marks the return to the stage of the Lucky So & Sos, a latin / jazz / funk / hip-hop ensemble I joined several years ago. Guitarist and composer Ian Taronji has kept the band going with DC-based rapper/MC Ardamus, writing and arranging new music through the disruption of the pandemic. We’re excited to perform at the Capitol Cider House in Petworth on October 2 at 7 pm, our first performance in over two years.
As a DC-based band, we’re always looking for DC-based material to add to the repertoire. Gil Scott-Heron’s 1980s classic “Washington, DC” is a natural for the band’s style. His tribute to the “mass of irony” of the Nation’s Capital, written during the Reagan years, still resonates today. We also cover “Rock Creek Park” by The Blackbyrds, another classic DC-themed groove.
I look forward to making more music with this band, and hope to see you on the 2nd!
