Tunes on Tuesday: On All Other Nights

Why this tune?

I wrote “On All Other Nights” before Passover 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to conduct our holiday seder meals virtually. The song was inspired by a question we ask at the seder: “Why is this night different from all other nights?”

When I wrote the song, I was convinced that it would not be relevant in 2021, but this year many of us will again forego the traditional gatherings for smaller seders or virtual celebrations on Zoom.

The song ends on a hopeful note, looking ahead to next year, Leshana Haba-ah (לשנה הבאה), when we hope to gather together in one place to share the celebration and the meal. I’m hopeful that 2022 will be that year.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy Passover. פסח שמח ובריא
