Why this tune?
This week’s song is another example of revisiting and rewriting. I wrote the first version of “The Muse Knows” in 2021. I wasn’t very happy with it after I wrote it, and tried a
few times to revise it in the years since. I took another look this January, and this time rewrote the song entirely, keeping more or less the same theme as the original.
I expect many songwriters have a similar list of first drafts that didn’t quite work and are waiting patiently for another look. I may need to revise this one even more, but for now I’m pretty happy with this updated version.
Since it’s February, I’m signed in to fawm.org (February Album Writing Month), a global community of songwriters that meets online every year to write, share and collaborate. I thought I was written out after January, but I’m still finding a few new ideas to add to that effort. If you’re a songwriter or know one, I recommend checking it out.
