Why this tune?
For the third year in a row, I’m taking a January song-a-day challenge organized by Kat and Sarah from Songwriting For Music Educators, which offers courses and resources for music educators who want to include songwriting in their work. I’m also taking a couple of online lyric writing workshops. I wrote today’s tune “On the 10:17” on January 4, using lyrics from the previous week’s session with the super talented and award-winning lyricist Marcy Heisler. For the song, I distilled the longer lyric I wrote in class to a standard AABA form and added music.
The other posts so far have been in a variety of styles, and include some complete songs and some fragments. All of them will probably benefit from additional re-writing and polishing to turn them into “proper” songs to add to a performance setlist.
