Why this tune?
I wrote “Sunday Night Blues” a few years ago, responding to a request from a friend for a
song about the dreaded “Sunday scaries.” I asked Barbara Papendorp to perform it for the first time in public at Blues Alley on August 26. She’s premiering another new song on the 26th, and singing some old favorites as well.
I met Barbara at the Black Fox Lounge soon after I moved back to DC in 2011. We have
worked together regularly since then. I enjoy Barbara’s ability to bring out the stories in my story songs, drawing on her talents as an actress and cabaret performer. You can hear her interpretations on my album “Making Up For Lost Time,” notably on “Let’s Wander” and “All I Ever Lost.” She’s also a native-level French speaker, which she demonstrates in our regular gigs at Bistrot Lepic and French Embassy events.
