Tunes on Tuesday: I Love You, Shut Up

Why this tune?

I’m sharing Tunes On Tuesday on Wednesday this week (after the long US President’s Day holiday weekend). The idea for “I Love You, Shut Up” started in a conversation among friends where someone in the group may have overstepped the bounds, leading his partner to say “I love you, but shut up.” The story in the song deviated from that original incident,
but I think the idea is the same. I think it’s a sign of a healthy, stable relationship when partners can be this honest with each other when needed.

Looking back, it’s not the first song I’ve written about people telling each other the honest truth. Check out “Are You Out of Your Mind,” about someone helping a friend avoid getting into trouble. Please let me know if you have other ideas for songs about “real talk.”

I plan to share more writes and re-writes in future weeks.
