Why this tune?
Tunes on Tuesday starts the new year with an updated version of a song I wrote last New Year’s Eve. It’s a twist on the concept of New Year’s resolutions, calling for us to resolve to “not resolve at all.” It’s really a love song, where the singer implores their love to stay just the way they are. Michael Kerker of ASCAP suggested that the song needed a bit more, so I added an additional verse in time for New Year’s Day 2024. I heard from Michael first when he informed me that I won the ASCAP Foundation Alan and Marilyn Bergman Lyric Award for my song “Let’s Wander.” Michael arranged an in-person meeting with Alan Bergman, which was a unique and a bit unreal opportunity spend an afternoon talking about our music and stories. Alan had some notes on my song, which I was only too happy to consider.
This song joins the list of holiday tunes I’ve written over the years, including “For A Tree” for Arbor Day, “Thanksgiving With Uncle Rob,” “Hanukkah Light,” “Pi Day,” and the COVID Passover lament “On All Other Nights.”
If you decided to make some resolutions of your own, I wish you success in keeping them. For everyone, best wishes for a safe, sane, and swinging 2024.
