Tunes on Tuesday: Hallmark Movie Marathon

Why this tune?

This week’s tune is another collaboration I posted to the FAWM 50/90 community (fawm.org), which closed on October 1. My new songwriting friends David Graham and Vaughan Ray Daniel sent me lyrics for “Hallmark Movie Marathon,” and I took up the challenge of writing a Hallmark-movie worthy pop song around their gentle and amusing story. I don’t think I’ve actually ever seen a Hallmark movie, but I did check out some music from those films to get an idea of the style.

Harmonically, it’s a departure from the jazz tunes I usually write, which means a lot fewer seventh chords and hip extensions. For the recording I took the opportunity to make more of a production, adding some drums and backing parts. I can see recording this one at some stage with some of my musical colleagues, maybe on a country project we’ve discussed.

You can hear the complete track on my Soundcloud page.
