Tunes on Tuesday: Waiting For My Beach

Why this tune?

This week’s tune is the third single from my Groove Park project that drops on Friday July 28. “Waiting For My Beach” is a country beach song with an ironic twist about the very real threats of climate change. The narrator is an eternal optimist who just wants to make sure that sea level rise “turns out right for me.”

I wrote the song several years ago, but only recorded it in 2022 after sharing it with Percy White and Vicki Golding. They helped me assemble the superb group of musical talents who turned the words and notes on the page into a musical performance.

The recording features Vicki’s vocals, including the lovely background vocals she arranged and performed. Percy plays bass, joined by two other musicians from a previous Groove Park track “Island In The Sea:” Sol Roots on guitars and Angel Bethea on drums and percussion.

Rounding out the ensemble are Joey (guitar) and Renée (violin) Bennett, who both perform in the Army Field Band based at Ft. Meade, MD. They’re responsible for the soulful solos on the track and the rich textures they contributed to the rest of the recording.

As with “Island In The Sea,” we returned to Tonal Park studio to record the song, trusting master engineer Charlie Pilzer to capture the sounds of the group and help craft the final track. Randy LeRoy at Tonal Park mastered the final version after it was mixed by Brian Forbes.
