Tunes on Tuesday – I-95

Why this tune?

I’m using this week’s tune to remember the songwriter Adam Schlesinger, one of the too many musicians we have lost recently to the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m most familiar with his work in the brilliant pop band Fountains of Wayne, which he founded with Chris Collingwood in the 1990s. They released several albums of perfect pop songs, creating moving stories out of sometimes mundane subjects.

Dig this detail!

I-95, from the album Traffic and Weather, is a great example – a melancholy story about long-distance love built on details from a freeway rest stop. “Coffee mugs and tees that say Virginia is For Lovers, but it’s not.”

I would appreciate donations to support Tunes On Tuesday and my other projects!

Check it out!
