MetroSongs Volume 4: Get ’em while they’re hot!

Just received a stack of the new MetroSongs Volume 4 CD, which we call “Multi-Tracking” to mark the first recording by the entire MetroSongs band, Jason Mendelson and the Open Doors.

You can hear the latest collection on BandCamp, and buy a physical CD for your very own for only $10 from that site or (better yet) directly from me.

I’m really proud of this collection, and happy to have had the opportunity to contribute as a writer and player on most of the tunes on the album.

Looking forward to Wednesday

Dinner Jazz at Dahlak continues on Wednesday June 5. This time I’m thrilled to welcome CaShandra J and Percy White to the gig. The CapitalBop calendar lists my gig as “straight ahead jazz as background music,” but with this band it’s going to be much more than that.

We’re playing from 7-10 pm, and as usual there’s no cover charge for the music. Hope to see you there!

By the way, Dahlak is one of the “Jazz in the Hoods” venues for the DC Jazz Festival. Happy to be part of the festivities!

Dinner Jazz at Dahlak: May 1

The new Wednesday night dinner jazz series at Dahlak continues on Wednesday May 1, when I’ll be in the house on piano leading a vocal trio featuring singer Deirdre Jennings-Holton and Russell Snyder on bass. Looking forward to a fun evening of standards and original vocal and instrumental pieces.

Please come out and enjoy the music and tasty Eritrean food. The music starts at 7 pm, and there’s no cover or minimum.

Dahlak (also the home of the DC Jazz Jam) is located at 1771 U St. NW in DC’s Adams Morgan neighborhood.

DC Jazz Jam: Best of DC!

Woohoo! The readers of the Washington City Paper voted the DC Jazz Jam at Dahlak the Best Jazz Jam Session in DC this year. Most of the credit goes to Will Stephens, who has built the jam into a solid DC institution over the last three years. I always enjoy playing there, in the house band or as a guest, and look forward to many more jams to come.

Speaking of which, I’ll be back in the house band on Sunday April 21.

Two jams in April

I’ll be joining the house band for the DC Jazz Jam twice this month. The first session will be Sunday April 7, when I’m looking forward to playing with the first Sunday house band and guest master artist Pepe González on the bass. I’ll be back in the band on Sunday April 21, joining the third Sunday band.

Hope you can come out to hear and play!

Dinner jazz at Dahlak continues

Looking forward to my second session of dinner jazz at Dahlak Restaurant in Adams Morgan this Wednesday April 3 at 7 pm. I’ll be joined by the great Russell Snyder Percy White on bass for several sets of standards and some original tunes.

Hope you can come out to enjoy the music and tasty Eritrean food.

Updated April 2: Russell Snyder will be on the bass instead of Percy, who will be in New York recording with Aaron Myers

Playing for a cause: American jazz and Swiss cuisine

Update (Feb. 19): this event has been postponed to mid-March. Please watch this space for further information!

fairgirls-logoI’m excited to be joining Aaron Myers and the Black Fox Ensemble for a benefit performance supporting FAIR Girls, a DC-based organization dedicated to preventing the exploitation of girls worldwide with empowerment and education.

The event, sponsored by the Swiss Ambassador, will take place on February 20 at 6:30 pm at the Swiss Residence, 2920 Cathedral Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008.

The band features Aaron Myers on vocals, backed by Percy White on bass, Will Stephens at the drums, and me on piano.

Tickets are $50 ($80 per couple), for the American jazz and Swiss food. This promises to be a fun event in a beautiful setting. We’d love to see you there.
