Another live video from our performances at the Black Fox Lounge in Dupont Circle (Washington, DC). This one’s an instrumental; our take on the Duke Ellington standard “Caravan”
Here’s the first of what I hope will be several videos from our April 13 performance at the Black Fox Lounge. I’m very happy that we captured this particular performance of “Fly Me To The Moon”, which went on an interesting (and surprising) trip.
- Aaron Myers, vocals
- Oren Levine, piano
- Percy White, bass
- Joe Henderson, drums (filling in for our regular drummer Will Stephens)
More fun to come next Friday the 20th with Aaron and the ensemble.
Just got the word from Aaron yesterday that we’re playing tonight, April 13, in a special second Friday performance at the Black Fox Lounge, I’ll be on the piano along with Percy White on bass and Joe Henderson on the drums. The music should start around 9:45 pm (we’re following another performance that Aaron is also playing for), and as always there’s no cover charge for the music.
We’ll be back again on April 20 for the third Friday in the month, with the Black Fox Ensemble in its standard form: Aaron at the mike, me at the piano, Will Stephens at the drums, and Percy on the bass.
I’ll be celebrating at our family seder in Boston on Friday night the 6th, so I won’t be playing with Aaron Myers at the Black Fox Lounge in Dupont Circle. If you’re in DC and aren’t otherwise occupied with a seder of your own, please stop in and check out the band!
I’ll be back at the Fox on April 20 with Aaron and the rest of the Black Fox Ensemble.
By the way, thank you very, very much to everyone who came out to the Black Fox on March 30 to hear my “Dupont Jazz Project.” I want to extend a special thanks to the guest vocalists, Jason, Jeff, CaShandra, and Aaron, who helped make it a special night. I hope to do it again soon.
To start off that Pesach spirit, check out this clip from Bob Moses’ musical epic “The Story of Moses”. Hag sameach!
Two more musical events coming up at the start of April. On Sunday the 1st, I’ll be joining the house band of the long-running DC Jazz Jam at the Dahlak Eritrean restaurant in Adams Morgan (18th St & Florida Ave. NW), along with Evan Samuels on guitar, Ethan Foote on bass, and Will Stephens at the drums.
I’ll be playing with Will again on Tuesday the 3rd, along with our Black Fox partner Percy White and multi-reed master Seth Kibel. We’ll be providing tasteful swinging music at “Pearls of Purpose 2012,” the annual gala of the DC non-profit FAIR Girls. They’re focused on preventing human trafficking here in DC and around the world. The event will include a silent auction, food, drink, and extraordinary guest speakers. (click here for tickets) .
Percy White and Will Stephens are joining me in the rhythm section, to play a variety of standards and original tunes and arrangements. In addition, I’ve invited several of my favorite vocalists to sing some of my original songs and their favorite standards.
Black Fox favorites Aaron Myers and CaShandra J will be in the house, along with Jeff Weintraub and Jason Mendelson (of MetroSongs fame). I’m looking forward to helping Jason explore the jazz side he may not have known he had!
Will and I play regularly with Aaron Myers at the Black Fox Lounge (you can hear us there this Friday Mar. 16), and he’ll be in the band for my gig at the Fox on March 30 as well.
Good looking site, Will!
I just posted another original tune to the Original Music page, this one called “In The Lounge,” a somewhat-jetlagged reaction to too many overseas trips and too many airports. I haven’t recorded this one yet, and would be delighted if any singers out there would like to have a go at it.
Speaking of which, the band is coming together for my March 30 gig at the Black Fox Lounge in Dupont. Hope you can join me there!
Hope to see you on March 30, when I will be leading the band at the Black Fox Lounge in Dupont Circle. I’m looking forward to a fun evening of standards, originals, and (I hope) a few surprises. Still putting together the program; watch this space for more info.
I had a great time playing MetroSongs with Jason Mendelson and the Open Doors at Nerd Nite DC on Feb. 11. We covered nine stations in this performance, ending with a very energetic “Mall & Chain (Pentagon City)”.
At the gig, Jason brought out the MetroSongs Vol. 2 CD, “Party Train”. This edition includes my piano playing on track 3: “Ice Skating at the Archives”. Please check out MetroSongs.org for more info on how you can get your very own copy (Vol. 1 is available as well).
Back on the jazz side, I’m back at the Black Fox Lounge in Dupont Circle on Friday the 17th, with vocalist Aaron Myers and the Black Fox Ensemble: yours truly on the piano, Percy White on the bass, and Will Stephens on the drums. We’re fresh from our successful performance at the French Embassy Valentine’s party on Feb. 10, so it should be another fun evening!
