Week 151 on the Facebook social community Jam of the Week is all about The Blues. Great opportunity to write a short original song for the occasion.
Hanukkah starts on the late side this year (first candle Dec. 24), but it’s not too early to start thinking about Hanukkah music. You can hear my Hanukkah “carol” on Aaron Myers’ holiday album Snowing In Vegas. I created a video for the song this year to help spread the light. Enjoy!
Happy Thanksgiving to my American readers! I’m happy to offer a few musical “snacks” to add to your holiday preparations.
You can hear these live as well: I’m joining Barbara Papendorp and Amy Conley at their Capital Cabaret at Mr. Henry’s on Nov. 27 to sing about Thanksgiving. Barbara and I will perform more seasonal tunes at Bistrot Lepic on Nov. 30.
Here’s “Thanksgiving For Uncle Rob,” a song about the important non-culinary parts of the holiday, sung by Aaron Myers:
Back in the kitchen, I offer two comments on the meal, sung by Barbara Papendorp:
Here’s a quick rendition of my new instrumental tune “As Water Covers The Sea”. Enjoy!
To hear more original music, please check out the holiday CD “Snowing In Vegas,” which I recorded with DC jazz/soul vocalist Aaron Myers. It’s available on CD and through your favorite streaming services: Spotify, SoundCloud, iTunes, Amazon, and others.
Here’s my performance schedule for November 2016: playing for both the DC Jazz Singers jam (Nov 6) and the DC Jazz Jam with guest artist Elijah Balbed (Nov 13). I’m then back at Bistrot Lepic on Nov. 30 with Barbara Papendorp and Daniel Brown.
Just in time for the holidays, the new CD of Aaron Myers’ holiday album “Snowing In Vegas.” We released the digital album last year, and produced real CDs this year for your listening and gifting pleasure. You can order the CD on this site.
This week’s “assignment” on Jam Of The Week was “Autumn Leaves,” which gave Barbara Papendorp and I a chance to record our version for this amazing online musical community. We perform this regularly in our shows around Washington, DC. Our next two are on Oct. 21 (tonite, 7:30 pm) at the Henley Park Hotel (10th & Mass Ave NW, DC) and Weds. 10/26 at 7 pm upstairs at Bistrot Lepic on Wisconsin Ave NW.
Just in time for the holidays, you can purchase the Aaron Myers holiday album “Snowing In Vegas” on CD. It’s a collection of fun seasonal music, and features three of my original songs, including the new DC classic “Stand Right”.
You can buy the CD on this site for only $10 (plus $1 for US shipping).
Here’s my music update for June 2016, featuring performances with some of my favorite people at favorite venues. In addition, I’ll be spending a week in Boston at the end of the month, as a student at the Berklee Summer Songwriting Workshop.
I’m looking forward to learning from their excellent faculty and the other participants. This is not specifically a “jazz” workshop, so it will be particularly exciting to learn about a much broader range of styles than I’m used to.
Speaking of songwriting, here’s a live recording of one of my newest tunes, “The Heart Says,” sung here by Barbara Papendorp at one of our recent shows at Mr. Henry’s Restaurant on Capitol Hill.
Here’s my performance update for February 2016. As I noted in the update, I was honored this month to contribute a musical theme for Darwyn Dave’s new podcast “Dealing With My Grief.” Darwyn is a talented photographer who is actively documenting the DC jazz scene. I’ve benefited from many performance photos he has produced, and was more than happy to return the favor with this short composition:
I listened to this tens of times while making the video, and it just doesn’t get old. It’s a beautiful song that I hope will take its rightful place in the library of American holiday classics.
