I’m always on the lookout for inspiration for new songs, which usually comes in the form of a unique turn of phrase that turns into a lyric or a title. For this new song, a cabaret number called “All I Ever Lost,” inspiration came from Dani Stoller, a talented singer/ actress/playwright I met last year at a cabaret hosted by Barbara Papendorp, another talented singer/actress who I have the pleasure of performing with regularly around the DC area. Dani told us a story of a failed relationship, concluding that “all I ever lost was my TV.” Several months later, that sentiment evolved into this song, which Barbara and I premiered on Aug. 23 at Bistrot Lepic. Enjoy!
Thanks to Tony Gudell for capturing this performance by Barbara Papendorp and the DC Jazz Jam house band of my song “Without You” at the jam on May 14, 2017. With Percy White, bass, Mark Caruso, guitar, and Will Stephens, drums.
I’ll be playing with Barbara at Bistrot Lepic on May 24, and with Tony at Acadiana on June 18. Hope to see you there!
Here’s my live music schedule for April 2017. Please come out on April 1 (seriously!) for what promises to be a fun and foolish show with Barbara Papendorp (and special guests) at Mr. Henry’s. We have a great band and fun selection of songs for the season, including some of my Spring selections.
I’ll be at Acadiana on Easter Sunday, April 16, with the fine vocalist Tony Gudell and a trio. This is my first show at this elegant Cajun restaurant in downtown DC, and we’ll be presenting an equally elegant program of American standards, including some lesser-known gems and a couple of my originals.
Barbara and I are back at the Blue Bar at the Henley Park Hotel on the 22nd, another chance to play their grand piano. After that, I’ll be back with Aaron Myers and the band to close out the month with a show at Mr. Henry’s on the 28th.
Hope to see you!
Unfortunately, Barbara and I will not be playing at Bistrot Lepic tonight, owing to a scheduling conflict by the venue. We hope to be back there soon!
Barbara Papendorp and I entertained the diners at L’Hommage Bistro Francais in DC with a couple of hours of American and French standards plus one of my originals (“Without You”). We also took the opportunity to record a video for this week’s Jam of the Week, celebrating Harold Arlen. Here’s “Come Rain Or Come Shine” from the Arlen/Johnny Mercer songbook.
Happy Thanksgiving to my American readers! I’m happy to offer a few musical “snacks” to add to your holiday preparations.
You can hear these live as well: I’m joining Barbara Papendorp and Amy Conley at their Capital Cabaret at Mr. Henry’s on Nov. 27 to sing about Thanksgiving. Barbara and I will perform more seasonal tunes at Bistrot Lepic on Nov. 30.
Here’s “Thanksgiving For Uncle Rob,” a song about the important non-culinary parts of the holiday, sung by Aaron Myers:
Back in the kitchen, I offer two comments on the meal, sung by Barbara Papendorp:
Here’s my performance schedule for November 2016: playing for both the DC Jazz Singers jam (Nov 6) and the DC Jazz Jam with guest artist Elijah Balbed (Nov 13). I’m then back at Bistrot Lepic on Nov. 30 with Barbara Papendorp and Daniel Brown.
Just in time for the holidays, the new CD of Aaron Myers’ holiday album “Snowing In Vegas.” We released the digital album last year, and produced real CDs this year for your listening and gifting pleasure. You can order the CD on this site.
This week’s “assignment” on Jam Of The Week was “Autumn Leaves,” which gave Barbara Papendorp and I a chance to record our version for this amazing online musical community. We perform this regularly in our shows around Washington, DC. Our next two are on Oct. 21 (tonite, 7:30 pm) at the Henley Park Hotel (10th & Mass Ave NW, DC) and Weds. 10/26 at 7 pm upstairs at Bistrot Lepic on Wisconsin Ave NW.
Here’s my live music update for August 2016. I’m sitting in at the DC Jazz Singers Jam at JoJos on Aug. 7, and joining the Lucky So & So’s at the Atlas beer and music fest on Aug. 13. In addition, I’ll be back at Bistrot Lepic for two dates with Barbara Papendorp, and closing the month with Aaron Myers at Mr. Henry’s.
Hope to see you!
